Baby animals and villagers (Age)
/summon minecraft:cow ~ ~ ~ {Age:-24000}
A negative Age makes cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, horses and villagers babies. The number is ticks until adulthood; -24000 is 20 minutes, one Minecraft day.
Baby zombies (IsBaby)
/summon minecraft:zombie ~ ~ ~ {IsBaby:1b}
Zombies, husks, drowned, zombie villagers, zombified piglins and piglins use IsBaby:1b. Baby zombies are fast and never grow up.
| Mob | Make it a baby | Grows up? |
|---|---|---|
| Animals | {Age:-24000} | Yes |
| Villagers | {Age:-24000} | Yes |
| Zombie family, piglins | {IsBaby:1b} | No |
Babies that stay babies
/summon minecraft:sheep ~ ~ ~ {Age:-2147483648,NoAI:1b}
The smallest possible Age takes years of real time to reach adulthood. Feeding speeds up growth, so do not feed display mobs. NoAI keeps them still.
Bedrock: spawn events
/summon cow ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ minecraft:entity_born
/summon zombie ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ minecraft:as_baby
Bedrock has no data in braces, so a spawn event makes the baby: minecraft:entity_born for animals and minecraft:as_baby for zombies. The ~ ~ after the position is rotation; follow the suggestions if your version orders the arguments differently.
Resize instead (Java 1.20.5+)
/attribute @e[type=minecraft:cow,sort=nearest,limit=1] minecraft:scale base set 0.5
To shrink an adult without the baby model, change the scale attribute. On 1.20.5–1.21.1 it is minecraft:generic.scale.
Common problems
- Spawns as an adult: you used Age on a zombie or IsBaby on an animal.
- Grows up quickly: the Age is too close to 0 (-100 is five seconds).
- Baby villagers cannot trade: use an adult.
- Chicken jockey: see the ride command guide.
