Syntax

/fillbiome <from> <to> <biome>
/fillbiome ~-16 ~-16 ~-16 ~15 ~15 ~15 minecraft:cherry_grove

The second line turns a 32×32×32 area around you into a cherry grove. You give two corners, just like /fill.

Useful biome IDs

IDWhat changes
minecraft:cherry_groveBrighter grass and water (1.20+)
minecraft:mushroom_fieldsHostile mobs stop spawning naturally
minecraft:snowy_plainsSnow instead of rain, and water freezes
minecraft:desertNo rain at all
minecraft:pale_gardenGrey, washed-out colors (1.21.4+)
minecraft:plainsA neutral biome to reset to

How much you can change at once

Like /fill, one command can cover at most 32,768 blocks (32×32×32), so split bigger areas. On Java 1.20.3+ the limit is the commandModificationBlockLimit gamerule.

Biomes are stored in 4×4×4 cells, so edges snap to 4-block steps. You cannot change a single block's biome.

Replace only one biome

/fillbiome ~-16 ~-8 ~-16 ~15 ~8 ~15 minecraft:plains replace minecraft:desert
/fillbiome ~-16 ~-8 ~-16 ~15 ~8 ~15 minecraft:plains replace #minecraft:is_ocean

Only the biome named after replace changes. A # tag such as #minecraft:is_ocean matches a whole group.

What changes and what does not

Check the current biome

The F3 debug screen shows the biome where you stand. To find a different biome nearby, use /locate biome minecraft:cherry_grove (see the locate guide).

Bedrock Edition

Bedrock has no /fillbiome. Pick the biome when you create the world, or find the one you want with /locate and travel there.
