Edition and version notes
Smithing templates are relatively new. Older Java and Bedrock versions use different availability and data.
Template item versus trimmed armor
/give @p minecraft:spire_armor_trim_smithing_template 1 gives a smithing template item. It does not automatically put a trim onto armor. Applying trim involves compatible armor, a trim material and the selected template; commands that grant already-trimmed armor involve separate version-dependent item components.
If your intention is to hand out the template, use a plain Give command. If you need preconfigured armor, choose the armor trim generator and check the edition first. Java Edition and Bedrock Edition cannot share every customized item data format.
